Our Story

All our butterflies are farm raised, meaning they are never harmed or killed. Most butterflies live less than two weeks. Once they die naturally we pick them up and preserve them.

The butterflies are raised on our farms in the rain-forest in Peru, South America. These are large open netted areas which allows the butterflies to be raised in their natural environment of rainfall and sunshine with safety as they have an unlimited food source as well as no predators.

Once the butterflies die we collect them and begin the preserving process. We start by injecting them with a preservative. We then take tweezers and break the butterfly into 14 pieces and glue it back together. This reinforces all the joints of the butterfly keeping the wings from dropping over time. Our frames will last a lifetime.

Our frames are made on our farms from Brazilian Cedar wood. Our glass in made from high quality Colombian glass. The butterflies are secured to the glass and then the frame is assembled. All our butterflies are placed in between two pieces of glass so that you can see both sides of the butterfly. We always recommend flipping the frame over and looking at the back of the butterfly. The butterfly can change drastically on the back from different colors to intricate patterns. The blues and red butterflies are often the most fascinating on the back.
